How do you get information to thousands of production workers who have no company email or computer? Info kiosks, the intranet and printed newsletters simply didn't reach the shop floor.
When lockdown halted production, Volkswagen Poznań — with nearly 11,000 employees the largest employer in the region — faced a problem: how to reach everyone at once with reliable information? Only offices had company email, the intranet required a computer, the e-portal worked only on-site. Production workers were out of reach.
On 2 April 2020 the AllAbout app launched — downloadable from Google Play and the App Store to a private phone. Accounts were created automatically from SAP data, with one-time PIN login. The effect was immediate:
At the start the app was an internal communication tool: posts with photos and video, employee comments, digital newsletters, the canteen menu, important phone numbers and contacts in the „More” tab, an FAQ. During quarantine employees shared videos themselves and supported each other in the comments.
Over six years the app grew from a simple information channel into a tool that genuinely eases an employee's everyday work life. Each year the plant orders new features to meet people's real needs:
Today AllAbout not only delivers important information — dynamically updated shift schedules, pay tables per role, announcements — but also handles the employee's concrete matters.
The feature has run since 2024. The employee takes one selfie, marks the reason and pickup point — the app fills in the rest automatically. The next day the new pass is ready for collection at the chosen point. That's the difference between an app with announcements and a tool that genuinely saves time — for the employee and for the department that used to handle it by hand.
In the first half of 2026 employees filed more requests (745) than in the whole of 2024 and 2025 combined (388). The feature is spreading rapidly — the easier a matter is to handle, the more often people reach for it.
Surveys gather employee opinions — from job satisfaction to sensitive topics. A flagship example: a fully anonymous survey in which employees rated their supervisors across dozens of open and closed questions. No identifying data was collected — and even the employer had no access to the results in the admin panel. The data went solely to Expansio as an independent party: we processed the answers and handed the plant a finished report with statistics.
This arrangement gives employees a real sense of safety — and the employer honest answers instead of polished ones.
Quizzes work both ways. For fun — during the football World Cup employees predict match scores. Seriously — today the plant uses them to verify safety knowledge, which previously happened only on paper and on-site.
It's a full-fledged examination module:
The plant trusts the module enough to grant employees cash rewards for completing quizzes.
The bulletin board is a module where employees post private ads themselves — shared commutes, selling personal items, lost and found. They fill it themselves, without the communications team.
It enjoys strong interest — employees have posted around 700 ads so far. It shows the app became for the crew not just a top-down channel, but also their own space.
We added the sports challenge only in 2024 and have expanded it heavily since. The app integrates with leading watches and sports apps, so employee activity is counted automatically — no manual entry.
The feature caught on brilliantly: 850 people already take part in the current edition, and the competition is still on — reaching a thousand participants is realistic.
