Sports challenge in your app

Get the whole crew moving — all year round, not for one month

Engaging an athlete is easy. The real challenge is people who don't normally move — and that's who we target. And because we're your company's dedicated app, we engage employees year-round, in different periods and forms, not as a one-off campaign.

At Volkswagen Poznań the number of employees taking part in sports challenges grew from 290 to 949.
Team ranking in the panel: department positions and points

Engaging an athlete is easy. The rest is the art.

Most people in a company aren't competitors — they're the long tail: people who sometimes take a walk or a bike ride but don't see themselves as athletes and don't want to compete with marathon runners. It's their engagement that really lifts the numbers — and we built the mechanics around them:

  • Leagues by consistency, not results — you move up for being active, not for being fastest.
  • Weekly mini-challenges with random rewards — everyone has a chance, not just the top.
  • Anonymity — you can take part without showing your results to others.
  • Step counting — walking counts, you don't have to run.
  • Badges — from the very first activity, for an easy start.
Year-round movement

Not a one-off burst, but part of company culture

A one-month campaign isn't enough — enthusiasm fades as soon as it ends. Because we're your company's permanent app, we engage employees all year: different challenges in different periods, seasonal campaigns, ongoing competition in the background.

Under your brand

In your app, not someone else's

The competition runs inside your own app — with your logo and name — not in some random app with someone else's branding. The employee stays in the company's ecosystem.

The sports app from the inside

A full-fledged module inside your app — not a separate app, but part of the company ecosystem:

Feed

A social-media-style feed: participants share routes and photos from activities, react and comment. Everyone sees a summary of their results — distance, steps, number of activities. This way sport in the company takes on a life of its own instead of being a dry results table.

The news screen

Ranking

Year-round individual scoring with positions, points and avatars, plus team competition during challenges. Results can be filtered by discipline — running, cycling, walking and more — so everyone compares with those doing the same. Consistency counts, not just the top, so the ranking motivates rather than discourages.

The ranking screen

Team challenges

Employees form teams and compete together. The administrator sets group size and duration, and participants join existing teams or create their own. Team competition draws in even those who wouldn't start on their own — because they don't want to let their teammates down.

The team challenges screen

Profile

An employee's personal space with all their activities and details: type, time, distance and route map. Activities can be private or shared publicly, and those from watches and sports apps are imported with one click. The whole movement history in one place.

The profile screen

Notifications — motivating reminders, admin messages and news about team successes.

Coordinator panel

One person runs the challenge, from a computer

Setup, results and messages to participants all sit in one panel. Nothing to install, and no need to ask us for every change.

An app, not a form

A full sports app — a phone is enough

An employee needs no watch and no extra install. The app they already use to read company news measures the activity itself:

The activity tracking screen: the route drawing itself on the map, a timer, distance and speed
This is the measurement in progress — the route is drawn on the map while time, distance and speed run beside it.
A saved running route on the map, 10.14 km in 2:25:27
A finished activity in the feed — 10.14 km in 2:25:27, with the route on the map.
  • Measurement inside the app — start, pause and a route recorded on the map, with distance and time. Like a running app, only inside the company app.
  • Steps on iPhone — counted by Apple Health on their own, with nothing to launch. For part of the workforce this is the only form of participation they need.
  • Recovering an interrupted activity — if the phone closes the app mid-run, or someone forgets to end a workout, the activity is not lost. It comes back days or weeks later and the route is rebuilt from the saved coordinates.
  • Indoor activities — yoga, gym, dance or swimming, confirmed with a photo. Movement that GPS cannot measure counts too.
  • Bonus zones and contests on the map — scored segments and places that turn an ordinary route into part of the competition.
  • Automatic duplicate detection — the same activity sent from two sources counts once.
Fair play

We catch cheating before it ruins the competition

A competition only makes sense when everyone plays by the same rules. That is why the system automatically verifies submitted activities:

Three kinds of detected abuse: a route that does not match the sport, steps added by hand, a result far outside the norm
  • Movement type verification - the system analyses the route and recognises when it does not match the declared discipline, for example a car journey submitted as a cycling route. Such activities are cancelled automatically.
  • Step source control - we detect steps added manually in external pedometer apps. Such values are ignored and do not count towards the result.
  • Detection of unusual results - activities that clearly deviate from the norm, exceptionally long or intense, are automatically flagged and reported to administrators for review.

As a result, the ranking reflects real effort and participants can be confident that the competition is fair.

Short challenges

Not every challenge has to last two months

You set the start date, the end date and the goal yourself, so a challenge can last a weekend, a week or a month. The short form does a different job than a long edition:

A comparison of challenge lengths: weekend, week, month, two months
  • A walking weekend, goal 10,000 steps a day — two days is a commitment even someone who does not consider themselves an athlete will take on. With a two-month edition the same person often never starts.
  • A low barrier to entry — a daily goal instead of an overall ranking means everyone competes with themselves, not with the fastest person in the company.
  • Several events a year instead of one — short challenges fit the rhythm of the company: the start of the year, a Sports Day, a safety week, a health campaign.
  • At no extra cost — the annual fee does not depend on the number of editions, so four short events cost the same as one long one.

A short challenge also works as a first step: a small, safe event shows how many employees will really take part before you plan a bigger programme.

Our own measurements

Numbers from a live deployment, not from a survey

These are not study results or participant declarations, but readings from the system:

290 → 949participants in the sports challenge at Volkswagen Poznań
49groups in the team competition — the whole workforce, not selected departments
92%of VW employees use the app that the sports module runs in
  • From 290 to 949 participants — that many people took part in the sports challenge: 290 in the first edition, 949 in the edition that ended in September 2026.
  • 951 participants in 49 groups in the latest edition — team competition covered the entire workforce, not selected departments.
  • 92% app adoption — that is the share of Volkswagen Poznań employees using the app that hosts the sports module. The challenge requires no additional install.

Why movement at work pays off

Employees' physical activity is associated with lower sickness absence, better team integration and higher engagement.

ESG & CSR

Sport that works towards your ESG and CSR goals

A sports challenge is more than engagement — it's concrete value a company can demonstrate in the area of ESG and CSR:

  • Wellbeing and health (the “S” in ESG) — caring for the workforce's fitness and wellbeing is a measurable element of social responsibility.
  • Integration and culture — shared activity builds bonds across departments and locations and strengthens a sense of belonging.
  • Employer branding — an active, engaged workforce is an asset in building the image of a responsible employer.
  • A shared charitable goal — the points of all participants add up to a single result for the entire workforce, regardless of which group anyone competes in. That result can be tied to a company commitment towards a chosen social cause. The collection can also start from a selected date, in a second stage of the challenge — individual and group rankings still count from the beginning, so nobody loses anything.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a sports watch?

No — a phone is enough. The app records the route itself, an activity can also be added by hand, and on iPhone steps come in from Apple Health.

What about people who don't do sports?

It's for them that we designed consistency-based leagues, step counting and mini-challenges — so getting started is easy and pressure-free.

How long does a challenge last?

From short seasonal campaigns to year-round competition — we tailor it to your goal.

What about privacy?

Maps and activities are private by default — the user decides what to share.
